Two Barrels, Two Recipes: Our Four Roses Picks

Here’s why Four Roses picks are so much fun. The distillery makes 10 different bourbon recipes:

• 2 mash bills: OB (60% corn, 35% rye) and OE (75% corn, 20% rye)
• 5 yeast strains, each with its own personality

The four letters on every barrel tell you exactly what’s inside. We picked one of each mash bill:

• OBSK: the high-rye mash bill with the K yeast, known for spice and a full body. Expected in Q4 2026.
• OESV: the softer, higher-corn mash bill with the V yeast, known for delicate fruit and a creamy feel. Expected in Q1 2027.

Same distillery, different mash bill, different yeast. When both land, you know we’re tasting them side by side.

New Picks: Here and On the Way

• Russell’s Reserve Single Barrel (just arrived, $100). We picked this one at Wild Turkey in June, and the pick video is up now: “Our DREAM Russell’s Reserve Barrel Pick at Wild Turkey!” Our full review is coming this week.
• Peerless Single Barrel, “ZBar’s Four of a Kind” (just arrived, $100). Four groups put their names on this barrel: ZBar, Concise Bourbon, Barrel Proof Liquors and Bob-O-Link, hence the four-aces sticker. 6 years old, 106.4 proof. Review coming this week.
• Blue Note Memphis (arriving in the next couple of weeks). This is the barrel from our Memphis trip, Barrel #25276 at 121.6 proof. Reserve now and you’re first in line. Expect this one to be about $60.
