We Rented an RV to Chase Barrel #3

ZBar Bourbon Club

Tuesday Bourbon Brief

Hey Friends,

I'm writing this one from the road — literally. Tomorrow we're loading six ZBar members into a rented RV and driving to Ben Holladay to pick our third barrel this month. Yes, an RV. If you're wondering how that decision got made, it's a long story that started with a pot hole in Memphis, but it's going to make for a great trip. Watch for TikTok Lives along the way — we'll be checking in from the road before we even get to the distillery.

The Big News:

Quick update on the last two picks

Both the Rare Character barrel and the Blue Note barrel picks turned out excellent. Genuinely excited about both. Blue Note is going to land first — looks like October — and that's a special one: we're getting half the bottles from that barrel, and we'll be distributing those through Patreon and the email list. More details coming as we get closer, but if you want a shot at one, this is a good time to be on both lists.

Something new we're trying

We just opened up a Bottle Purchase Interest list — a simple way to tell us which bottles you'd actually want to buy from us, including whether shipping would matter to you. We built this because "reply if you're interested" doesn't scale, and we want real data, not guesses, on what to prioritize next. It's brand new, so consider this a soft launch — click through, tell us what you're after — we'll follow up with everyone and do what we can, including working out shipping where it makes sense.

This Week in Whiskey News

  • Bardstown Bourbon Co. just released two new fall bottles nationwide: 2026 Discovery (a blend of 7, 10, and 11-year Kentucky bourbons finished in Garryana oak) and Lochs of Jura Barrel Finish (bourbon/rye finished in Scotch casks from Isle of Jura, 104 proof, 99 points at the 2026 IWSC). Both are $139.99, limited quantities. I can't wait to find these two.
  • Sazerac picked up the shuttered Garrard County Distilling facility in Lancaster, KY — worth watching what they do with it, given Sazerac's track record of bringing dormant sites back online.

One for the group chat: if you had to pick what we ask Ben Holladay when we roll in tomorrow, what would it be? Reply and let us know — we might actually ask it on camera.

Sip together, learn together, have fun together

ZBar Bourbon Club Special - Weekend Update Hey ZBar fam, What a weekend it's shaping up to be. Last night we hosted our very first Patreon LIVE, and today we're bringing the fun in person with a one-day deal at Barrel Proof Liquors. Here's everything you need to know. ZBar News PATREON LIVE SUCCESS We had a few audio gremlins early on (first-time Patreon LIVE jitters!), but once we got those sorted, the night was a blast. About 25 of you joined us to hang out, talk bourbon, and get a first...

ZBar Bourbon Club Weekly Download Hey friends, I filmed three hunt videos last week on our way to Louisville (Bob-O-Link, Cork Liquors, and Old Town Liquors). As I was filming them it became clear the bourbon world is changing and fast. No wonder over 7,000 people tuned into the A1 Liquors video we posted last Monday. I think everyone is curious about what is happening to the industry and no better place to find out than how the liquor stores are reacting. Those 3 videos will be coming out 1...

ZBar Bourbon Club Weekly Download Hey friends, What a week. Thursday, Zac from Barrel Proof Liquors and I headed to Four Roses to pick a barrel… and came home with two. Then Saturday’s Bottle Share turned into one of the best nights we’ve had as a club. Thank you to everyone who brought a bottle, a story and a big appetite for good conversation. To me the standout pour may have been the Peerless ZBar pick that JRam brought (full review of that bottle coming out the end of this week). ZBar...
